Question: I noticed that psyllium fiber is often used for colon cleansing, what exactly is it?
Answer: Using psyllium fiber for colon cleansing is nothing new, in fact it’s been done for ages. Psyllium is produced primarily for it’s mucilage content, which refers to colorless gelling agents. Mucilage is produced by milling and grinding the outer later of the seed.
This mucilage is what is know as “hydrophilic”, which means that it attracts and binds to water easily. It also simulates normal bowel elimination and is used as a dietary fiber as well as a laxative.
Psyllium fiber colon cleansing is extremely popular in the United States, who is the world’s largest importer of the product.
